GREEN TEA CANCER PATIENTS

GREEN TEA FOR CANCER PATIENTS

What are your thoughts about the study/findings?

I support the conclusion of the study as the epigallocatechin-3-gallate or EGCG found in the leaves used to extract green tea can lower and reverse radiation-induced dermatitis in people with breast cancer especially when applied topically after noticing any signs of dermatitis.

How does green tea “reduce the incidence and severity of radiation-induced dermatitis (RID)” for those who have breast cancer?

Green tea has proven to cure or lower radiation dermatitis. The antioxidant and EGCG properties can help lower RID as it prevents skin inflammation and enhance restoration of the skin integrity when applied topically. The polyphenols in green tea can reduced radiation dermatitis by suppressing effects of the proteasome enzymes improving the symptoms in breast cancer patients. EGCG has numerous impacts on the molecular mechanism that contribute to ration-induced dermatitis; it exhibits anti-inflammatory and antibacterial components that suppress free radicals, hydroxyl radicals, superoxide anions and proteasome from damaging skin cells or triggering inflammation. It also supports the repair and growth of cells and tissues caused by free radicals. All these activities work to lower severity if RID on breast cancer patients.

Is there any reason why cancer patients shouldn’t drink green tea?

I recommend any cancer patient to quit or seek a doctor’s help when they notice any allergic reaction,  increased radiotherapy skim conditions or after effects such as headaches and migraines after taking green tea.
