Herbal Supplements You Should Not Mix with Statins?

St. John’s wort

Mixing St. John’s worth and statins, including atorvastatin(Lipitor) and rosuvastatin(Crestor), can cause a spike in your cholesterol levels. This can make you more susceptible to cardiovascular problems such as heart disease and stroke.

Red Yeast Rice

Red yeast rice is an excellent source of monacolin K, a chemical that promotes healthy cholesterol levels. Because most statin medications have this chemical, taking them with statins makes the drugs more powerful, increasing the likelihood of liver damage.

Grapefruit

Grapefruits leads to poor digestion and absorption of some statins, making them accumulate in your system. Too much statins in your bloodstream can lead to rhabdomyolysis, which is associated with muscle pain, kidney failure, liver damage and even death.
