Menopause Affects Skin

How Menopause Affects the Skin

You may know menopause causes hot flashes, brain fog, and low libido. What you might be unaware of is the connection between menopause and the skin. You see, when menopause happens, your estrogen levels plummet. Low estrogen levels then result in the production of less collagen. I hate to say it, but this will make your skin lose its water retention ability. That is not all; its elasticity and thickness will also take a hit. The result? Sensitivity, dullness, fine lines and wrinkles, dryness, and sagging take over.

How To Care for Specific Concerns During This Is Time

For dryness, you may really want to apply moisturizers daily. Moisturizers are loaded with hyaluronic acid that improves the skin’s water retention ability. Post-menopause acne breakouts and dark spots are also common after menopause. If you spot any of them, I strongly suggest checking with your dermatologist for the right treatment.

 Skin Routines and Safety

While battling with skin challenges during menopause, do not forget sun protection. Bringing the right sunscreen (with an SPF of 30 or above) on board will reduce the risk of developing skin cancer and signs of aging (fine lines and wrinkles).
