How Much Vitamin D To Consume to Prevent Toxicity?

Overall, a healthy adult should consume 600 UI to 800 UI of vitamin D daily. Anything beyond this can spell trouble for health and general well-being.

Identifying Vitamin D’s Role as A Hormone and How Excess Intake Can Prove Harmful?

Vitamin D has become a topic of so much debate. While some claim it is a hormone, others say it is a vitamin. As a health expert, I am here to help you choose a side. Vitamin D is actually a hormone that encourages the absorption of calcium and phosphorus for better bone health. Following this role, excess intake of the vitamin causes calcification (buildup of calcium in the body tissues). The consequences of calcification include nausea and vomiting, urgent urination, and weakness.

Vitamin D’s Role as A Vitamin

We all know vitamins are building blocks for our health. While most of them are ingested, Vitamin D can be obtained from exposure to the sun. There is no denying that Vitamin D is found in a few foods. Needless to say, these foods harbor a tiny amount of vitamin D; thus, they cannot help us meet our daily recommendation. Because most of the vitamin D can be made by our bodies, as a health expert, I strongly feel it is a hormone. Plus, like other hormones, it regulates the cellular and bodily system activity-making our bodies absorb calcium and phosphorus.

The work of a family doctor includes a wide range of clinical diversity, which requires extensive knowledge and erudition from a specialist. However, I believe that the most important thing for a family doctor is to be human because the cooperation and understanding between the doctor and the patient are crucial in ensuring successful health care. On my days off, I love being in nature. Since childhood, I have been passionate about playing chess and tennis. Whenever I have time off, I enjoy traveling around the world.
