Photoaging

Photoaging

Photoaging describes the damage inflicted on the skin by UVA, UVB, and UVC light. Also referred to as dermatoheliosis, photoaging can cause wrinkles, decreased skin elasticity, redness, and spots (age spots or liver spots).

Are There Specific Ingredients That People Should Look Out for In Skincare Products to Prevent Photoaging?

If you didn’t know, extreme exposure to UVA, UVB, or UVC light does not directly cause photoaging. The thing is, these lights cause free radical generation. It is these free radicals that encourage wrinkling, spotting, and skin laxity. Now, when buying skin care products, look for vitamin C. Also known as ascorbic acid, Vitamin C is known for its antioxidant properties that can protect against free radical damage. Other ingredients to keep an eye on includetitanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and hyaluronic acid. These three can create a barrier that deflects or filters out more UV rays.
