The Effect Loneliness Has On Our Physical Health

 As a credentialed psychologist, I found loneliness can cause;

Sleep Deprivation

Loneliness takes away the sense of security, making a person unable to relax. Over time, this can cause decreased sleep quality and sleep deprivation.

Weight Gain

When you suffer sleep deprivation, your hunger and appetite might increase. This is mainly caused by an imbalance between ghrelin and leptin hormone, making you eat more calories.

Weak Immune System

When you are lonely, there is a decent chance your body will always be in flight-or-fight mode. Due to this, inflammation can happen, weakening your immune system.

Using the acquired academic and professional experience, I advise patients with various complaints about mental health - depressed mood, nervousness, lack of energy and interest, sleep disorders, panic attacks, obsessive thoughts and anxieties, difficulty concentrating, and stress. In my free time, I love to paint and go on long walks on the beach. One of my latest obsessions is sudoku – a wonderful activity to calm an unease mind.
