Mouth Taping

Trend Of Mouth Taping

If you are familiar with TikTok, there is a good chance you have seen or participated in the trend of mouth taking. For those who have been living under a rock for the past few days, mouth taping involves keeping the mouth closed at night using silicone-based tape. The goal of mouth taping is to encourage nasal breathing during sleep. According to TikTok users, this reduces snoring and improves sleep quality.

Is Mouth Taping Safe?

Using tape on your mouth for a long-time can cause abrasions and cuts on or around your lips. Nighttime nausea is nothing new. If this finds your mouth is closed, there is a good chance you will be choked by your vomit.

Better Remedies to Improve Sleep and Snoring

Because mouth taping is not safe, you may want to try these science-backed ways of improving snoring.

Do Not Hit the Pillow Drunk

Alcohol causes snoring by relaxing your throat muscles. For this reason, you may want to avoid booze before bed.

Steer Clear of Sedatives Before Bed

In a similar fashion as alcohol, sedatives relax your throat muscles. This blocks your airways, causing snoring.
