Toxic Masculinity

Toxic Masculinity

Toxic masculinity refers to the overemphasis on traditional masculine traits. Normally, societies and cultures require men to show strength, dominance, sexual virility, and lack of emotion. Exaggerating these traits results in chauvinism and sexism, self-entitlement, low empathy, and violence.

Reasons Behind Toxic Masculinity

Toxic masculinity stems from the negative ideas about “manhood”. For instance, there is the notion that men should be tough (physically, emotionally, and behaviorally) and antifeminine (not displaying emotions or avoiding skincare). To gain respect, men also believe they should be powerful and wealthy.

Influence Of Father Figure on Male Development

If not addressed, toxic masculinity will create a generation of fathers that bottle up their emotions and disrespect their women.
