Are you a smoothie fan, but indigestion is a regular problem to your system? I recommend you stop adding protein powders to your sweet drink. While the powders may be easy and quick for preparing the smoothie, it could be the reason your stomach experiences bloating since they contain sugar alcohols. They are rarely absorbed and metabolized, resulting in fermentation and increased gas in the GI tract. But I advise my clients to use protein powders with the least mixtures or formulations for better results. If you consume it daily, it is best to stick you smaller servings with lots of water to reduce constipation risk. Furthermore, avoid powders labelled with sugar alcohols, ending with ‘OL’, such as erythritol.
