EXERCISING IN THE HEAT

EXERCISING IN THE HEAT

How will hot weather impact my exercise performance?

Hot weather causes heat, which negatively affects the body. It can heighten core temperature and dehydrate the body, factors that possibly reduce performance. If the body temperature increases, muscular endurance minimizes, making it harder to exercise for longer.

What should I wear to exercise outside in the heat?

I highly recommend sunscreen to protect your skin from harsh rays. For exercise gear, I tell my clients to wear long-sleeved outfits. They should be moisture-wicking for more comfort and cool when sweating. Please avoid darker clothes that might raise and retain temperature even more.

What types of sunscreen are best for outdoor exercise?

Coppertone

I like Coppertone because it is water and sweat-resistant. It offers protection up to more than an hour of working out from the sun. It is light and non-greasy, thus giving great service to your skin no matter the heat available.

Skinnies Conquer sunscreen

Skinnies is a New Zealand brand with a more concentrated sunscreen that layers up after two minutes of application to offer protection from the sun’s rays. It is water-resistant and takes longer before coming less effective.
