Food or Drinks That Raise the Risk of Blood Clots

Energy Drinks

One study found that taking energy drinks, including Monster, Redbull, Amp, NOS and Rockstar can lead to increased platelet aggregation. When platelets aggregate, they are more likely to clump together, increasing the risk of blood clots.

Red and Processed Meats

Red and processed meats contain large amounts of salt and saturated fat. High salt intake promotes water retention, a recipe for high blood pressure. When your blood pressure is high, plaque will likely form on the walls of the arteries. The plaque makes you more susceptible to blood clots. Saturated fat is another culprit, especially when taken in large amounts. When you take a lot of saturated fat, your blood cholesterol will likely rise. As a result, plaque may form on the walls of your arteries, increasing the risk of blood clots.
