DARK SPOTS

FOODS THAT WORSEN DARK SPOTS

How does diet play a role in skin health for dark spots?

As a dermatologist, consuming skin-friendly foods packed with antioxidant properties can lower and prevent skin pigmentation or dark spots. The nutrients in these foods reduce the appearance of dark spots on the skin by fighting free radicals that can cause skin cell damage, stimulating the production of more melatonin hormones and speeding up cell turnover (the process by which the skin sheds and replaces dead cells), eventually clearing up dark spots.

Which foods are the worst for dark spots?

I strongly advise you to limit your intake of the foods below to prevent cases of hyperpigmentation or dark spots;

Sugary foods and drink

The high sugar or glycemic index content can trigger skin inflammation, inhibit collagen production, and cause dark spots and premature aging. Limiting your daily sugar intake can help you avoid many skins and other health conditions.

Soy

Though healthy soy is rich in phytoestrogen, which can alter the normal functioning of body hormones as it functions as the estrogen chemicals. A change in normal hormonal functioning can trigger dark spots.

Fried, unhealthy fats, and spicy foods

They are likely to cause hyperpigmentation by increasing skin inflammation, disrupting collagen formation, and accelerating premature aging.

What are some good nutrients to incorporate to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation?

I recommend you eat more foods high in Vitamin A, C, omega 3 fats, carotene, antioxidants, and minerals such as manganese, zinc, and calcium. Add avocados, green veggies, nuts, fatty fish, carrots, seeds, and pumpkins to your diet to lower the risks of hyperpigmentation.

I am deeply convinced that each patient needs a unique, individual approach. Therefore, I use different psychotherapy methods in my work. During my studies, I discovered an in-depth interest in people as a whole and the belief in the inseparability of mind and body, and the importance of emotional health in physical health. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (a big fan of thrillers) and going on hikes.
