ECO-FRIENDLY SUNSCREENS

MINERAL AND ECO-FRIENDLY SUNSCREENS

1. The rise in popularity of mineral/eco-friendly sunscreens

These sunscreens are effective and less damaging to the environment, hence recommended different dermatologists.

2. What to look out for

Buy mineral-based types rather than with oxybenzone formulation

Oxybenzene has proved to cause skin bleaching. I recommend buying sunscreens with mineral ingredients as they feature zinc oxide, which is less harmful to the skin. They contain mineral components that form a physical layer on the skin for protection against sun damage.

Buy a lotion, not mist

I tell my clients to buy lotions for sunscreen, unlike mists or sprays. The latter easily goes to the sand and may get to the sea if you are at the beach. But lotions are safe when rubbed on the skin, thus keeping the planet safe.

Positives/any negatives

Pro: Ecofriendly sunscreens lack irritation due to no artificial colors, chemicals, and harmful byproducts.

They lack toxicity because they layer on the skin without getting absorbed in the bloodstream.

Con: Sunscreens with octinoxate or Nano zinc oxide are harmful to the sea creatures and coral reefs when exposed to the ocean.

I am deeply convinced that each patient needs a unique, individual approach. Therefore, I use different psychotherapy methods in my work. During my studies, I discovered an in-depth interest in people as a whole and the belief in the inseparability of mind and body, and the importance of emotional health in physical health. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (a big fan of thrillers) and going on hikes.
