Separation Anxiety in Adults

Separation Anxiety in Adults

While separation anxiety is thought to only affect children, that is not the case. As a mental health expert, I discovered it can affect adults too. Separation anxiety in adults stems from separation or the thought of being separated from people who bring joy in our lives (think: children, spouses, partners, or caregivers).

How Do you Have Separation Anxiety?

Separation anxiety in adults can cause;

  • Restlessness or nervousness
  • Concentration problems after separation from loved ones
  • Constant urge to spend time with the loved one away from you

How to Move Around Separation Anxiety

  • Identify the source of your anxiety and journal them. This makes it easy to combat negative thoughts when they strike.
  • Replace the negative thoughts with positive thoughts. You can achieve this by staying connected to friends or family and going for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
  • Do things that distract you. This can be listening to music, watching a movie, or walking.

The work of a family doctor includes a wide range of clinical diversity, which requires extensive knowledge and erudition from a specialist. However, I believe that the most important thing for a family doctor is to be human because the cooperation and understanding between the doctor and the patient are crucial in ensuring successful health care. On my days off, I love being in nature. Since childhood, I have been passionate about playing chess and tennis. Whenever I have time off, I enjoy traveling around the world.
