The first noticeable symptom of bowel cancer that targets most people is a change in bowel habits. When bowel cancer strikes, it changes the colour, frequency, consistency and odour of your bowel movements.
How to Identify It
Although laxative use, depression or anxiety, exercise, travel and certain medications can affect your bowel movement, a change in bowel movement caused by bowel cancer usually doesn’t go away after a few days or worsens.
What to Do Once You Notice It
See your doctor or physician as soon as possible. Your healthcare provider will help you understand whether the symptom is connected with bowel cancer or other conditions, including celiac disease, constipation, Crohn’s disease, IBS or ulcerative colitis.
