Vitamin D Supplements

Who Needs Vitamin D Supplements?

Vitamin D supplements are not helpful for people with healthy Vitamin D levels. They are helpful for people suffering from severe vitamin D deficiency.

How Do You Know If You Should Start Taking Them?

Severe vitamin D deficiency causes bone pain and joint, muscle weakness, soft bones(osteocalcin), depression, and slow wound healing. If you spot any of the aforementioned signs and symptoms, check out with your health care provider. It might be a green light for indulging in Vitamin D supplements.

How Does One Choose a Good Vitamin D Supplement?

Know the right amount for you. The daily requirement for adults is 600 or 800 IU of the “sunshine vitamin”. Taking a low dosage of vitamin D may not give you great results. Similarly, overdosing on the supplement can be dangerous. You should also know the form of vitamin D that solves your problems accordingly. The available forms of vitamin D include Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) and Ergocalciferol (Vitamin D2). I will not burden you will too much knowledge now.

What Should Shoppers Look For?

Look for a USP certification on the label. If there is a USP certification, there is a good chance that the amount in the bottle matches the amount indicated on the label.

Is It Possible to Take Too Much Vitamin D, Between Your Diet and Supplements? If So, What Happens?

Although it is impossible to overdose on Vitamin D from the natural source(sun), you can go overboard with supplements. The result? Calcification (buildup of calcium in the body tissue) happens. As a registered dietician, I hate to say it, but calcification is a surefire way of developing arthritis.

I am deeply convinced that each patient needs a unique, individual approach. Therefore, I use different psychotherapy methods in my work. During my studies, I discovered an in-depth interest in people as a whole and the belief in the inseparability of mind and body, and the importance of emotional health in physical health. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (a big fan of thrillers) and going on hikes.
