While pork contains healthy nutrients, including lean protein, vitamins, phosphorus, zinc, and iron, it can pose risks to your health. For instance;
May increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases
Pork is loaded with saturated fats and may have high sodium amounts, especially the ones bought in drive-thrus. Such compounds can be harmful possibly increasing risks, including cardiovascular diseases. Other pork products, such as, bacon may have chemical additives, sulfates, and preservatives, which cause body inflammation and risk of chronic diseases. I always tell my clients to choose better cooking methods, such as, boiling or baking rather than frying to reduce the risks involved. Also, buy leaner varieties to avoid the large fat content in pork.
May carry parasites
Some restaurants and fast food ventures may undercook their products. If you are unlucky to find undercooked or raw pork, the chance of contracting parasitic infections may be high. Raw pork can have Taenia solium parasite, which may cause cysticercosis condition that might result in epilepsy. It is best to ensure your pork is properly cooked before consumption.
