SEEMINGLY HARMLESS ACTIVITIES

SEEMINGLY HARMLESS ACTIVITIES THAT COULD BE THREATENING YOUR SPINAL HEALTH

As an osteopath, here are some harmless daily habits that enhance your risk of spine problems;

Sitting for longer durations

People often sit for long durations, whether at work or school, without having short breaks to walk or stand. This tends to increase the pressure exerted on the lower back discs, inhibiting their performance. Squeezing these discs can result in tension on the spine or the lower back.

Twisting your spine

It’s normal for people to turn their spine daily, whether engaging in sports activities, having fun, or attending to simple duties. These activities can cause cervical and lumber spine injuries in the long term. Less pain from twisting often accumulates and results in tears of the lower back or spine or ligaments and discs, increasing your risk of future spine issues.

Wearing high heels

Heels are an everyday shoe fashion for women. However, wearing heels over 1 or 2 inches daily alters the normal spine curvature inducing more pressure. Most women cope by arching their backs, forcing their back muscles to function harder.

Poor nutrition

Consuming diets that don’t give the body the needed nutrients weakens the spine or back muscles, tendons, discs and ligaments. It can increase the risk of inflammation in these parts over time which is linked to adverse spine conditions.

I am deeply convinced that each patient needs a unique, individual approach. Therefore, I use different psychotherapy methods in my work. During my studies, I discovered an in-depth interest in people as a whole and the belief in the inseparability of mind and body, and the importance of emotional health in physical health. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (a big fan of thrillers) and going on hikes.
