Your partner claiming to want to have you back can be a way to test if you still want them in your life or have feelings for them.

They frequently try to check on you

This can be a sign that they are trying to see if you are available and for you to refocus on the breakup. Exes do so to make you fall for their trap as they prompt your conscious to make you miss them, regret or reminisce on being back together. They can try to recreate the food memories you shared for you to miss them and give the relationship another chance.
