VITAMIN B12 & FOLATE

VITAMIN B12 & FOLATE

1) What are your thoughts about the study/findings?

I think people should change their diet by incorporating foods with vitamin B12 and folate to reverse or prevent symptoms of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which is an easier therapy compared to organ transplant.

2) How/why does NAFLD cause inflammation/scarring?

Scarring happens in response to the liver’s effort in stopping inflammation caused by liver damage.

 3) Why do vitamin B12 and folate help when it comes to NAFLD-related inflammation/scarring?

Vitamin B12 helps increase syntaxin 17- a protein that eliminates damaged body cells through autophagy process, which results in more fat digestion and prevention of inflammation.

 4) What are ideal food sources of vitamin B12 and folate?

Vitamin B12

  • Dairy products- cheese, yogurt, and milk
  • Meat- liver, chicken, and fish

Folate

  • Meats- kidney, liver, egg yolk, and chicken giblets
  • Starches- whole grain bread, potato, and wheat flour
  • Legumes- beans, soya foods, almonds, and nuts
  • Fruits and vegetables- cabbage, spinach, and peaches

5) Is there anything else you’d like to add? Please provide your name, full credentials, email, and professional website or LinkedIn account. Thank you!

I would like to urge people to consider a change of their lifestyle, including eating a healthy and balanced diet and exercising to generally achieve optimum health.

I am deeply convinced that each patient needs a unique, individual approach. Therefore, I use different psychotherapy methods in my work. During my studies, I discovered an in-depth interest in people as a whole and the belief in the inseparability of mind and body, and the importance of emotional health in physical health. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (a big fan of thrillers) and going on hikes.
