WHAT IS IBS?

What IBS is, why it effects people and what the signs to look out for actually are.

IBS means irritable bowel syndrome, which involves various symptoms influencing the digestive system. It comes in three types, depending on your bowel movement, including;

  • IBS and diarrhea; loose and watery poop
  • IBS and constipation; hard and lumpy stool
  • IBS and mixed bowel movement; a combination of diarrhea and constipation symptoms.

The condition may come as a result of;

  • Brain-gut dysfunction- Involves poor communication between the gut and brain nerves.
  • Dysmotility- altered gastrointestinal muscles contraction, which affects food transport in the GI tract.
  • Visceral hypersensitivity- Where one has extremely sensitive GI tract nerves.

Symptoms

  • Cramping in the lower abdomen.
  • Unusual bowel movements, either harder or looser.
  • Whitish poop due to mucus
  • Excess gas and bloating
  • Either diarrhea or constipation at varied times.

I am deeply convinced that each patient needs a unique, individual approach. Therefore, I use different psychotherapy methods in my work. During my studies, I discovered an in-depth interest in people as a whole and the belief in the inseparability of mind and body, and the importance of emotional health in physical health. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (a big fan of thrillers) and going on hikes.
