WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

WHAT’S THE LINK BETWEEN OUR BODY CLOCK AND WEIGHT MANAGEMENT?

The circadian rhythm- body clock, is a full day cycle guided by different body hormones, including glucocorticoid, which signals us to wake up towards morning. The hormone also plays molecular roles, including enhancing immunity, metabolism, cognition, and bone health. Studies indicate that any alteration in the circadian rhythm of such hormones can make body functions less effective—whether from medication, diet, or stress. It could lead to obesity because our fat cells can sense the change. For example, before we wake up stress hormone levels increase and facilitate energy release from the body’s fat and sugar stores, which gets us ready for the day’s endeavors. But whenever you temper with this timing, say by changing our work shifts, our metabolism gets altered. As a result, we risk developing disorders, such as, fatty liver and diabetes; factors related to unhealthy weight.
