WEIGHT GAIN

WORST TYPE OF BUTTER THAT LEADS TO WEIGHT GAIN?

What would you say is the most unhealthy type of butter (or margarine) and how can it affect one’s metabolism and cause unwanted weight gain? What is a healthy alternative?

Margarine

Margarine was initially touted as healthier than butter. Even today some claims still say so. Well, margarine was earlier created from animal fats but currently, it is from vegetable oils. Different brands give varied nutritional information and fat content. But I generally discourage my clients from using it because margarine is the unhealthiest of all spreads and butters. It mostly carries large amounts of trans-fats and pro-inflammatory omega-6 fats- the worst fats that increase LDL, leading to a risk of heart diseases. Additionally, higher trans-fats potentially cause insulin resistance, which lowers metabolism. As a result, the consumer gains weight. If you want better alternatives, I highly recommend;

  • Avocado oil
  • Coconut butter
  • Coconut oil

Otherwise, everything in life, including food consumption, requires moderation. If you must have margarine or butter, reduce the portions to limit the intake.

I am deeply convinced that each patient needs a unique, individual approach. Therefore, I use different psychotherapy methods in my work. During my studies, I discovered an in-depth interest in people as a whole and the belief in the inseparability of mind and body, and the importance of emotional health in physical health. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (a big fan of thrillers) and going on hikes.
